The home that is the hub
of today’s Inn was built in the 1790‘s by Abigail and Batchelder Garland Brown, who were among the early settlers of Moultonborough. Originally called “Homestead Farm”, it remained in the Brown family for over 150 years -- well into the middle of the twentieth century. Over time bits and pieces of land have been sold off and today the Inn retains nearly ten acres, including apple orchards and a small pond. There are two attached, shingled barns on the property, the smaller of which dates from 1810 and houses our animals as well as two studios. The larger cavernous barn is estimated to date from around 1860-1870 and contains a workshop, a sauna, a bunkhouse loft, and several smaller rooms.
Toward the latter part of the last century the house was owned by the Young family, and it features heavily in the memoir The House Where the Hardest Things Happened by Kate Young Caley (look for her book on our shelves or on Amazon).
The Inn, which opened in the early 1980’s, has nine guest rooms. Its airy decor features antiques, natural fibres, sunlight, exposed brick, and wooden floorboards. Whilst many rooms offer air conditioning and fireplaces, featherdown duvets and cotton bathrobes, the inn retains the simple charm of an era long ago.

OPEN ORCHARD EVENTS: We hold two open orchard/open mic events per year, usually in June and in September. All creative souls are invited to attend and/or participate.
